Side by side

PhrasiGo vs Quizlet, feature by feature

Quizlet is a superb general study tool. For a language, the question is how much of the card you have to build yourself, and what you can do with it once it exists.

Feature PhrasiGo Quizlet
Learn your own sentences Type any sentence. It is translated, spoken aloud, split word by word and saved for practice. You type term and definition yourself.
Automatic translation Automatic, with both ♂ and ♀ forms where the language has them. Not language-specific; you write the definition.
Audio Natural neural voice for every phrase, with word timings. Tap any word to hear just that word. Built-in text-to-speech in most modes; recording custom audio needs Plus. [4]
Word-by-word meanings Tap any word for its meaning. Phonetic guide for non-Latin scripts. Not a feature.
Spaced repetition FSRS-4.5 on every phrase, yours or the course’s. Switched on for everyone, nothing to configure. 7-day forecast. Learn mode with a Memory Score and scheduled review; the older Long-Term Learning mode was retired. [7]

Card creation

The card fills itself in

In Quizlet a language card is a term and a definition you type, with text-to-speech read over the top [4]. In PhrasiGo you type the sentence in your own language and the rest is generated: the translation with both gendered forms, a natural voice with per-word timing, a phonetic guide for non-Latin scripts, and a tap-to-see meaning for every word.

  • Any sentence in 35 languages
  • Both ♂ and ♀ forms
  • Fix a translation by hand; audio regenerates

Practice

Seven modes that know it is a language

Flashcards, Learn, Test and Match are Quizlet’s modes, and they work for any subject because they treat every card the same. PhrasiGo’s modes exist because a language is different: tap the words you hear in order, build the translation from a word bank, say the sentence aloud and be scored word by word, replay only your mistakes, race the clock, dive for a daily treasure, and talk to a tutor.

Memory

FSRS on every card, on by default

Quizlet’s Learn mode incorporates spaced repetition through a Memory Score and scheduled reviews [7]. PhrasiGo runs FSRS-4.5, the open scheduler that models each phrase’s stability and difficulty and targets 90% retention, with a weekly forecast on the Progress tab and a memory-strength ring on every phrase.

AI tutor

A conversation partner that knows your cards

Quizlet retired Q-Chat in June 2025 [8]. PhrasiGo’s Talk is included: ten everyday scenarios, a level selector from A1 to B1, voice or text, and a tutor briefed on your saved phrases so you get to use them. Gentle corrections, and a closing list of phrases worth saving.

Making the move

Coming from Quizlet? Bring the sentences, leave the definitions.

  1. 1

Copy your terms as whole sentences

Instead of “to book”, add “I’d like to book a table for two.” The translation and audio are generated; you only type the sentence.

  2. 2

    Use folders like sets

One per trip, course or topic. Practice one folder or everything.

  3. 3

    Try Speaking mode first

It is the mode Quizlet does not have, and the one that changes how a sentence sticks.

  4. 4

    Keep Quizlet for other subjects

PhrasiGo only does languages. Chemistry stays where it is.

Questions people ask

Is PhrasiGo really free, or is there a catch?
There is no paid tier in the app right now and there are no ads. Instead of a paywall, PhrasiGo has fair-use limits so nobody can run up the AI bill: signed in with Google, you can add 100 new phrases a day, do 200 speaking exercises a day and hold 30 AI conversations a day. Without an account the limits are lower. Everything else, including the whole guided course, is open.
Can I import my existing cards or word lists?
Not yet. There is no file import, so you add sentences one at a time. In practice that is fast: you type one sentence and the translation, audio, gendered forms and word meanings are generated for you. You can export everything you have built as a JSON file at any time.
Does Quizlet translate my cards automatically?
Quizlet is not language-specific; you write the term and the definition yourself, and it can read them aloud with text-to-speech. PhrasiGo generates the translation, gendered forms, natural audio and word meanings from the sentence you type.
Does PhrasiGo have a speaking mode?
Yes. You read the sentence aloud and PhrasiGo checks it word by word. If it could not hear you clearly you get a free retry, and a suspiciously fast “perfect” answer is rejected, so the score means something.
Is PhrasiGo available on iPhone?
PhrasiGo ships on Android through Google Play today. The iPhone version is built from the same code and is in testing; it will appear on this site the day it is live on the App Store.
